ABOUT ME

Introduction

I’m Maryann Manasseh, a devoted spouse and caregiver to my husband who suffers from a chronic illness. As a conscientious parent and passionate individual, I strive to provide love and support in all aspects of my life.

During the initial 14 years of my life, I was a quiet individual with limited friendships. I constantly experienced fear and succumbed to societal pressures. It wasn’t until I turned 14 that I made my first friend. The following 14 years were a complete contrast to my earlier experiences. Suddenly, I became the life of the party, with people always gravitating towards me. I held the position of school captain and excelled in academics, sports, and cultural activities.

During my late twenties, I made the decision to further my education and pursue various certifications. I successfully became an NLP master practitioner, a certified storyteller, and ultimately, a specialist in non-violent communication. Currently, I am in the process of undergoing TA psychotherapy, which has allowed me to reflect on my experiences and education. This journey has given me a deeper understanding of the meaning and connections in my life. As a result, I am now able to present myself as an empowered individual.

My Beginning

At the age of 16, I began my journey in the world of events by participating in a promotional event for a Yogurt brand. Initially hired as a promoter, my exceptional communication skills caught the attention of the event manager. Impressed by my speaking abilities, he decided to hire me as an EMCEE for the entire event, which spanned 10 consecutive days. In recognition of my contributions, I received a daily payment of one thousand rupees.

My First Success

In 2001, I had the opportunity to showcase my dance skills at the ICE exhibition in Chennai. The opening act was a Jive & Rock-n-roll performance, and the special guest for the event was Srikanth, the former cricketer from the 1983 World Cup. Unexpectedly, the designated EMCEE was absent, so I was asked to introduce my own dance team. This turned out to be a turning point for me as I ended up becoming the official EMCEE for the entire 15-day event. During the same exhibition, Srikanth, impressed by my voice and stage presence, approached me to host the Triangular series for India, Australia, and New Zealand on a channel called Numb TV. It was a stroke of luck or perhaps a testament to my talent. A few months later, I received an invitation to host IIT Sarang for their main sponsor, E-serve. This marked the beginning of a five-year stint as the host for IIT Sarang, earning me the nickname “the IIT girl” from the media. Since then, my career has only moved forward without any setbacks.

My Big Transition

In 2010, I transitioned from being an EMCEE to becoming an Engagement Expert. This career change felt like I had discovered my true calling. Two years later, in 2012, while I was pregnant with my son, I began mentoring others. Sameena Anwar, who is now a highly regarded EMCEE and sports commentator, was my first student.

Challenges I Overcame

As a woman, I encountered the greatest obstacle in the form of gender-related myths and beliefs. I lacked a role model who could demonstrate the same level of passion and determination before becoming a mother. Personally, I struggled with the decision to either conform to societal expectations or to continue at full speed. However, I am now proud to be a trailblazer, paving the way for numerous women to find harmony between their personal and professional lives.
